Work Exchange Program

ENOTA IS NOT FOR EVERYONE

Please understand that Enota is not for everyone.  We are looking for those individuals who want to make a difference, are committed to being the best they can be, and willing to build a sustainable simple lifestyle.

What We Do

Enota is a Campground, Retreat Center & Farm.  The service we do is whatever it takes to serve our guests, steward this land, take care of our farm & animals, take care of ourselves, and build a sustainable life.  Work-exchangers typically serve in housekeeping, cabin cleaning, kitchen, bathrooms, maintenance, landscaping, cooking & kitchen, front desk, web design, computer work, promotion, plumbing, electrical and construction, organic gardening, animal care, husbandry, as well as whatever else is needed.  Most work-exchangers begin their service in housekeeping, unless they have specialized skills (plumbing, electrical, construction, etc.).  Approximately a 30-50 hour week during the season, depending on whether you are in the stipend awards program.

What You Will Receive

A tent site or bed in the dormitory.  Tent sites are on the stream (no camping equipment is supplied).  A very nice bathhouse and bathrooms are conveniently located near the tent sites.  These tent sites have a value of at least $600 per month.  Dormitories are separate male and female bunk bed facilities with 6 to 8 people in an open space with shared bathrooms and showers.  Beds in the dormitories normally rent out to guests at a rate of $900 per month.

Work Exchange for Tent or Dormitory:

- For individuals, 16 hours per week (20 hours per week April 1 - November 31)

or, a Top Rated RV Site

All sites are full hook-up (with sewer) 30 & 50 amp RV sites across from one of our streams and shaded.  Your site will also have a large wooden deck, picnic table, level pad, grill and fire ring.  Remember that we are rated to be in the top 100 in the nation for RVing by both Woodalls (5/5 facility) and Trailer Life (9/10/9.5 rating).  These sites are normally rented for at least $900 per month.

Work Exchange for Sites:

- For couples, 16 hours per person per week (20 hours per person per week for April 1 - November 31)

- For individuals, 25 hours per week (30 hours per week for April 1 - November 31)

or, Private Rooms

These private rooms with shared bathrooms and showers are located in our McMac or Iriquois work-exchange lodging facility.  These rooms would normally rent for $1,100 per month.

Work Exchange for Private Room:

- For individuals, 25 hours per week (30 hours per week April 1 - November 31)

Healthy Nutritious Home Cooked Meals

Based on the business season, Enota serves a buffet style lunch and dinner each day.  We make the meals for you - we do the shopping, make the meals, put out the food, and clean-up.  If Enota does not put out a buffet, self-serve meals are available in the kitchen.  We try to use as much food as possible from our garden and farm.  Self-service snacks, beverages, and breakfast (including farm fresh eggs and milk) are also available everyday.  Guests normally pay $7 for breakfast, $8 for lunch, and $10 for dinner.

Work Exchange for Meals:

- 10 additional hours per person.  Each person must also sign up for one dish shift (usually twenty minutes) and one meal prep shift (may last up to two hours) per week.  Alternatively meals may be purchased at $5 each with beverages at $.50.

Stipends Awards

Since Enota is a non-profit conservation facility, a stipend may be available to select Work-Exchangers after the initial six week trial period.

Bonus Awards

For those individuals who stay with us from April 1st through November 31 (the entire 8 months of our full season) a $400 service incentive will be given.  Or for those individuals who miss the cutoff date (April 1st) and stay at Enota for a full year, you qualify for a $50 per month benefit for every month served to be paid once a year on December 1st to offset the loss of the stipend award during the off season time.  This sum will be distributed once a year on December 1st.  If you leave early, no partial sum is distributed.

We are accepting applicants for an initial four month or longer commitment unless shorter arrangements are arranged and agreed upon in advance.  If you have the resources and availability to visit Enota before making your initial 4-month commitment, we highly recommend it.

Longer Term Commitments

Come as a paying guest and sharing our daily schedule to see if this is what you expect.  Understandably, this is not always practical or economically feasible for those coming from a great distance.
